About us

About us

Our ethos

People don’t thrive alone. We are motivated to not just complain about the current housing issues but to find and share viable housing solutions.

Our cultures have established themselves through complex village life and our specialisations that meshed with the rest of the community.

As the era of cheap energy and resources draws to a close, it makes sense to revisit the benefits of pulling together, and even revise the model of property ownership, since there are presently so many financially extractive processes incorporated into the property and investment industries.

We hold that in true collaborations both parties benefit – and the model we have founded works synergistically so that the investors gain from the success of the people living in villages.

This will allow people at all stages of life to flourish in their local community, taking responsibility for their own finances.

We have a belief that social sustainability precedes environmental and economic sustainability, and we have formulated some principles for this.

Key personnel profiles

Stina Kerans

Co-founder & Mastermind/Creator
Founded Sun Villages (Queanbeyan) Ltd in 2015 as a product of earlier phases, commencing 1981

Stina has had an unusual life, having experienced and achieved what many of us could only dream about. But she’s driven to achieve more—so much more—for the good of humanity. Her dream is to empower those who have been, and may soon be, deprived of their ability to fulfil the basic human need—of owning their home. Her book, Can’t Buy Property?, is an empowerment tool—the foundation for a movement that enables us to take back the control of our lives, and tells us why we must do it in the course of this decade.

She’s additionally been a highly successful futures dealer and also headed up a corporation of women who bought, renovated and sold houses.

Garry Kerans

With Stina, I have redeveloped or built from the beginning 163 apartments or houses on our own projects, and worked in the role of principal environmental consultant in Melbourne, Canberra and other regions in Australia.

I met Stina in 1977 and fell in love with both her and her spirit.

Together we hand-built a solar house that Stina had designed. It was a double brick, two storey; all trades done by us including all brickwork, roofing, wiring solar/battery/inverter system and building solar hot water panels and 450 litre heat exchanging storage tank from raw copper sheet. Designed, built and marketed onsite wastewater treatment systems for multi-unit developments and government and local government facilities all over Australia’s east coast. As a couple invested in whole blocks of apartments or flats, and renovated them and converted them to solar where possible.

Project managed the design and then construction of the first two stages of the 3 Young Street site: 74 apartments.
